Computer Room Design:
Worked as a consultant with the architects
designing a new engineering facility to have
the three computer rooms in the new building
be flexible enough to meet the business needs.
Oversaw the design and retro fit-up of a 15k
square foot computer room to raise the power
and HVAC levels from 40 watts a square to 130
watts a square to accommodate the hotter chip
set used in the new servers.
Pre-Sales and team leadership:
In 2 months was able to learn how to
configure a wide range of servers in two
different architectures, learned and debugged
a new ordering system. Managed the budget
during the order cycle, and managed the server
installations with the end result that 800+
servers ranging from 2-way to 64-way were
installed by my 4 person team in less than 16
months, and were operational ahead of the
engineering need.
Mentoring and Change Management:
As operations manager I implemented a new
data backup technology over a 2 year period
that reduced the backup time by 65%, and
reduced headcount from 130 people to 45 people
without a single layoff. Headcount reduction
was accomplished by a combination of
mentoring, training, and coaching to get the
employees into new career paths within the
company as the project progressed.
Executive IT support:
Delivered a high level security and system
support to Engineering VP and staff so that
data confidentiality and sensitive material
were not compromised or exposed during
upgrades to meet corporate supported base
levels. At business appropriate time migrated
them from NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 and then to
XP Professional.
